I would like to see more near misses posted, along with the accidents we all see far to often.
Ill call this one a work of fiction to protect the innocent,,,or not.
We were called to repair a bad underground ser.One leg had burned into. When we got there we say two zfmrs within a hundred yards of each other, and a sec.pedistool further doun line.WE generally mark our individual sevices with adifferent color for ID.
We had the MTR side in the clear, but had a sevice saver on the good leg so the cust could have power on a cold day while we located and dug up the serv.(serv saver is basically a drypack xfmr on a dolly cart to give 120/240) After amp check atxfmr we decided this time the color marks were correct, but with a problem....At the xfmr the wire was 350 and 3/0 at the home.We just thought someone had spliced in wire somewhere. So we cleared the xfmr side and started to locate.
After digging up and finding our bad wire,we cut the bad piece out, with leather gloves on and proceded to repair. Billy Bigbals grabs the xfmr side of 3/0 wire and tries pulling some slack,,,SHITTT he yelled, he had got a buzz.
So wethought the wire splices on different size wire must be close and touching back feeding our bad leg that was cleared up on both ends.So we dug and dug and dug,Finally one of the oldtimers wondered if this wire was tee,d off undergrond and feeding more than one house? Sure as shit... we were getting back feed thru a friggen MTR.
Just one of many,,,lets hear about more near misses.

There's another location on this site that for some reason doesn't seem to be used anymore, the "safety meeting" section off the main page of this website. This probably would be a better location for these stories anyway, most people probably head here after checking out the job postings, or don't even stop there, if they aren't looking for greener pastures. Good idea, it would be nice to hear about some accidents with a positive outcome for a change, instead of just all the bad ones.
