Two CL&P Workers Receive "Flash Burns"

Ledyard - Two Connecticut Light & Power workers who were apparently working on a utility pole outside of a power substation on Whalehead Road were burned this morning.

Gales Ferry Fire Department Lt. Jeffrey Erhart said crews responded at about 9:05 a.m. to what was initially reported as an electrocution.

Upon arrival, Erhart said that two workers had burns that were mostly in the facial area. They were transported to the William W. Backus Hospital. He said the injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.

A CL&P supervisor at the scene said the men were not electrocuted but received “flash burns.” He could not provide further information.

In addition to the Gales Ferry Fire Department, emergency personnel from the Mohegan Tribe, Submarine Base and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital also responded to the scene.

No power outages were reported.
