So what are the favourite brands and styles of LED headlight. I still carry my little Petzl Tikka for its light weight and small size, but these days I'm more inclined to use a cheap generic style Uni-Lite version with a half watt LED and single AA cell as a power source. The single cell keeps the weight low and it seems to last well on one alkaline AA.
I know Huskie mentioned they were working on a new LED light a while back. I wonder if they had good results.

LED runs on 3 AAA. Has 4 modes, bright, low, real low and flash. Flash is good in traffic. We use alkaline, found the lithium suck in the cold. With fresh batteries and getting out of a heated cab you can see 1 span either side of you. Velcro front and back on the hardhat and the headband sticks securely. Not much extra weight to pack. Most hands run these and like them alot. We work in extreme cold and dark half the year out and haven't found anything better.

They've got quite a range. Which one is it you're using?

I like the fact they seem to be properly waterproof.
Alkaline is OK, Nut I prefer to use NiMh rechargeables, although they too can have issues when they get too cold. The NiMh rechargeable cells outlast even the best alkaline batteries significantly these days.
I hacked my own headlight and replaced the cold white LEDs with warm white LEDs. Just for the hell of it really. I've never really appreciated flashing modes on headlights unless you're going to use them to mark a hazard.

we have our new Inline robo crimp coming out and I had them add 2 super white led's to light your crimp area. As for a flash light i got the nix on that project. We were real close to a design but had to dump the project for some new things i have been working on. If you guys have any ideas for a new tool or mods to current tools we make i would love to hear them.

Maybe dumping the flashlight development was a good idea. The market is getting pretty saturated with mass produced units that are actually pretty good. It would have been hard to justify the development cost for something that was already so widely available.
The use of LEDs built into tools to light what you're working on is good. Just make sure you specify a prominent brand of LED, since many of the generic Chinese brands are not reliable.

Absolutley, we have sourced a company in Japan that has been making led's for 15 years. They allow us to continue to offer our 5 year warranty on our tools. Not sure if you have seen our old inline crimper, but this one in my opinion is the Super Sport version and will blow away the competition for around the same price. I am working on some big projects as we speak to hopefully offer a juiced up version of our cutters with a bigger motor and a much upgraded blade...=) lol if you didnt notice im some what of a gear head, more power with reliabilty is my area of expertise!
