Bird Hunting
I'm in the market for a new shotgun. Haven't bought one in years. Too much travel, you know. I am going to hunt Quail, Pheasants and Grouse (I’ll try not shooting my hunting partner, huh Dick) and Skeet (if’n I can find a good recipe for them).
I’m leaning toward a 20 gauge O/U and like the Ruger Red Label, Browning Citori or a Beretta. I don’t give a hoot if it’s made outside the USA, I want a gun that shoots reliably, looks good and I can be proud to un-sleeve so none of that black plastic crap for me. Good well figured Walnut. I got a little more than several grand just burning a hole in my pocket.
Have we got anyone out there who has a good informed opinion of any of these guns or perhaps anther choice?

Shotguns
Tramp, look at the Browning "citori" and the Weatherby "athena" both are top notch shotguns. I shoot a Browning and love it,but would get a Weatherby if I was in the market for another. Have shot both of them and it is a toss up,the Browning is more affordable if you aren't independently wealthy!!! E.S>

Well, I would get a Holland & Holland or a Purdy if I was independently wealthy.
:) @ $80,000

Shotgun.
Benelli Super Black Eagle.

Hum, not an O/U and doesn’t come in 20 gauge. Looks like it would make a good duck or goose gun. I don't think I would want to carry a monster like that for 10 miles after Ruffed Grouse. I'm old and frail.

I had forgotten that Weatherby handles a decent shotgun. The Italians do make some fine shotguns. I see they also handle a decent double SxS side lock at a fairly good price, 3 Grand with replaceable chokes.
The gun you show, is that true side locks or a box lock with plates???
Thanks.

I understand yer lookin atta over n under and I do like em. I bought in to some hype on the browning Gold semi auto. Stay way from that its a terd inna candy wrapper. I have an old stevens 316 that I redid from a piece of crap. Had both barrels tapped for remchokes..... Kinda bulky but shoots like a dream. I have seen several offbrand over n unders at Gander mountain that shoot really well and with pretty cheap prices. True they aint much to look at but a dead bird issa dead bird.

Beretta or Ceaser Geranie shoot sporting clays and trap both good guns.
