I've been all over the northeast. Seen failures on all types PMH PMU PME S&C and Federal Pacific padmount live front and dead front gear. S&C makes a great product but they have had some recall and customer notifications on problems. Nothin lasts 4eva brother. Call your S&C service engineer. They are one of the few manufactures that are honest about product recall/warnings. If you run this type of switchgear to failure it'll flash to ground or burn up a barrier board. It is just the failure mode of the equipment. Most times on UG equipment transient faults don’t happen. This is a case when the gear can flash, and you can reclose and the circuit will hold. TEMPORALLY. Mice and rust and snakes are a problem that causes the gear to flash. Service life of the gear depends on environment, loading, number of operations load make/brake or parallel
