the Beast does work great but alot of us carry a hair dryer on our trucks so we dont have to run to the garage to get the beast....works just as well for identifying nuetral problems

in rural sections you'll see higher difference when losing the nuetral but in urban areas its very common to not see as drastic of a difference seeing (around here at least) mains get ground through...

never heard of it either. We use hypotronics on our lead cables after grounding so underground crews can identify which cable it is and also pick phases after lead and sheathing removed

Why? do you feel the cutout is failing and voltage is leaking? Do you then test before lifting the high side in case the cutout is leaking? I have always been taught to work it hot unless it is...

by sec urd fault locator maybe you mean the AL-60. we use the hypotronics for locating lead cables in manholes and then identifying the phases after the underground crews remove the lead.
