i have been told this by many people, also some states offer a vision waiver, to get a federal waiver, you need 3 years experience, so maybe work in another state............
anyone here know how hard it is, or have experience with getting into the trade with a felony?
My friend had a few felony's. He got on with rat crew somewhere. Hell, he was right out of prison. Had a bad rap, multiple offenses. Dealing meth, doing meth, burning down a house, you know, the same old stuff.. HA! now he's building powerlines!
any chances of getting on with the union you think? im a worker, and im interested in an apprenticeship, and from what im seeing on the forum, it looks easier to get one with the union (selcat) not to stir any union issues, i have only non union experience on the low voltage side. i also have a friend who is looking down the barrel of a bad discharge from the military, which apperntly equates to a felony conviction....

I'd suggest talking to your doctor or someone at the DMV for the specific ordeal behind a waiver or something to obtain a CDL.
In New York, you can obtain a certificate of passing [an] eye examination (even if you are with visual difficulties, the optomologists signs off on it) that effectively certifies you entirely, rather than taking the 20/40 test at the DMV.
I'll look into the requirements for a CDL in FL. and see if anything enlightening comes up. Some apprenticeship programs operated by the electrical utility (if not government owned) or the union only recommend a CDL.
thanks for the input guys, im doing my homework, and relocation may be a nessecity, which sounds to be the common thing.
Some people are opposed to paying money to make mopney , but if you head to Tn/Ga and go to SLTC, there is a rat contractor out of Nebraska that will put you to work if you show up. They dont hire off the street because they dont have time to train you to climb or see if you want to work in the industry so they just hire from the schools.. could probly move to a union position from there, at least you have time under your hooks.
feel free to pm me for more info.
