Steve, I am far from being a right winged Jesus freak. I was not trying to throw anything down you’re throat. I was just presenting that every State Constitution’s Preamble states that they are grateful to God so by President Barack Obama saying: "We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values." I wonder then where these ideals and set of values come from?

Default You have to believe in God

To be American? Or a good American?

Those preambles were put into those documents a long time ago. How many people even knew what a muslim was then? Or even a Jew? How much do you want to bet that they were more likely to be lynched if they proclaimed they didn't believe in God back in those days.

Old ways die hard. Politicians cannot find themselves admitting they are not believers, or Gay etc... because the majority in this country would not accept that.

This country was founded on the SEPERATION of Church and State. That was done deliberately by the founding fathers. The right wingnuts cannot seem to seperate themselves from that any longer. Especially since they (Religious) are more likely to vote right.

This country gives equal rights to all its citizens. That means we cannot give preference to one over another. That may piss off the majority, but o well too bad. That is why we are all here. We came here for the freedoms we could not get in England. We were the minority there. Our founding fathers saw fit to enact a document that would offer protection to the minority. Something called the Constitution of the United States of America.

You know what all the servicemen and women die for throughout the centuries. That wasn't for the majority as much as for the minority. The Majority forgets that.

Besides I guess a person writing on a linework site has more knowledge and experience in the Constitution than a man who graduated from Harvard Law, and has taught Constitutional Law in a University, and just happens to be an ex U.S. Senator, and is presently the President of the United States of America. Let me think? I'll take your word for it. Especially since you offered such compelling evidence to back up your allegations.

    Sorry but here's your sign!

I think by your replys that you may have a little crush on Barry... you act like my girlfriends back in highschool when someone talked smack about me>>>
And that doesn't suggest that I am a homophobe either... I say go for it, you'd probably make a cute couple... got to be better than that thing on his arm now.

I am not a right wing Jesus freak, I do however believe he sacrificed all for us and was the GREATEST man to walk the face of this earth, people should watch how they throw his name around, there's a better than average chance we will all stand before him and be judged.

    Exactly right, Meat.

I have said this before and I will say it again:

America is not now, nor has it ever been, a Christian nation. That is a myth of the religious right.

Many of our forefathers were freemasons, and as such, would NEVER have promoted one faith over another. The freedoms were recognize as American: Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, and Equality of Man are all core values first promoted by Masons.

Furthermore, the majority of our forefathers were Deists, which is to say they believed in a Supreme Being who could be known through His creation and is not involved in the day to day affairs of man. This belief was common to the "Age of Enlightenment" of the day.

And to say our forefathers did not know a Jew or a Muslim is just plain ignorant and biggoted. To say that the only way to be "grateful to God" is to be a Christian is simply stupid.

Steve, Boomer answered the question in his post since the Constitution was drawn up by these folks.
