I
AM suppose to be there.
The power is out, and
I was called in to restore it.
Hate to say it, but there were certain "areas" of town, when a trouble call came in, we would
always take a Police escort. It was company policy. How sad is that.
Ever been shot at when you're up a pole reppy? I have.
The shot hit the crosssarm, 3 inches from my right shoulder. AND, I
had a Cop with me out front.
Had a trouble call on night in one of those "Areas", and
didn't bring a cop with me. Rolled up, me and my truckdriver. Simple thing, blown fuse. Set up the bucket, and while I was up, gettin the fuse door, looked down on the ground and a bunch of "nice fellas", were harrasin the Hell out of my driver, to the point...it
might have been a problem.
I brought my bucket down, and Slammed the top boom in the cradle. They backed off. I told my driver, "Give me a 1 amp fuse and a 15 amp fuse"...then just sat there for a minute, fusin the door with the 1 amp fuse...
Went back up, put the door in, and when I threw it in, the sound of the explosion, was phenominal. Looked down on the ground, and there wasen't a
soul in sight.
Refused the door with the 15 amp fuse, threw it in....And the lights came back on.
Only then did "they" start comin back out and sayin "Thank you".
Once
again why, I don't believe in "Single Truck Troublemen".
