    Question

Sounds like you don't like Union's? BTW, we should ask ourselves, "What have we done for our Union lately?"

Actually your wrong and right,I do like unions, and your correct by saying what have you done for our unions lately......if only people would get more involved,go to the meetings instead of making excuses, like they dont have time.Ive been guilty of that,Im just trying like everyone else to get the ball rolling.......members make the union, the union doesnt make the members.....and the members need to stick together and ask for more, why not? but thanks for responding, least you were the first one.....it goes both ways,we support them and let the union work for the common worker,so we all benifit..........sorry it sounded that way, unions have faults, but who doesnt, and they are the best thing we have going.

Ummmmmmmmmm Unions are a working mans best friend. Union or not, the wages for all are based on what the unions get, likewise the benefits. It dont take much to understand that in the corporate world they aint giving up one red cent that they dont hafta.Left up to the generosity of the corporate world we would all still be working for minimum wage.A few corporate outfits would rather pay above scale than be forced to deal with the union, Do you think that would happen if the unions suddenly went away?Would working conditions ever improve?Would the older guys still have a job to go to?Ummmmmmmmm I dont think so

Thats right Poot, all the pay scales are based on what the unions have negoctiated for. Theres no lineman in his right mind that is non-union,that wouldnt jump at the first chance to be union if offered......well there might be a few,and thats just because we have people that aint got the right minds in this trade in the first place...............Ive never seen a corporation roll out the red carpet for any lineman, and doubt that I ever will.

  6. Default Just curious

Been working a big transmission job in san diego and most of the time its been a 6-10s, 7-10s or 6-12s to 7-12s schedule and was wondering on big jobs like this why they dont organize meetings at one of the yards or even off site if the contractor wouldnt allow it(close to the job). I know myself would go and my others if it were more accessible.

Ummmmmmm thats prolly never gonna happen on the jobsite , But depending on the size of the job its possible that a business Agent from the local would be willing to hold an unofficial meeting somewhere near the jobsite. Thats something you would have to speak with the BA about. I suspect the bylaws address when and where the official meetings can take place.

That is a good question, and they should every once in awhile in my opinion,we had a old timer business manager that insisted on members going to the meetings. The problem was nobody really listened...he would come out to us every once in awhile at the center...but the members never really took him seriously....kind of like a safety reps position.....now they have one that I dont even care to mention....the oldtimers had ways, agree or disagree they were mostly right.

That's right, bylaws set forth the time and place of the LU meeting. I know of locals with large jurisdictions that members drive many miles but still show up.......

I asked our contractors training management specialist (hes also my instructor at the jatc) told me the insurance liability alone for an "after hours" meeting on company property was the reason it was never gonna happen and that by laws dictate where they will be held. But thanks for that info poot.
