Im a j-man out in nevada and i have a good friend who happens to be apprentice and failed his journyman tet friday the 3rd. Our hall really isnt being usefull due to too many buddy buddy relationhips with management and now has been told he is being dropped from the jatc program. This guy is is in his 40s with a wife and kids, and knows how to do linework better than some of the guys here, he just missed the test by 2 points on the vectoring portion, he actaully aced every other parts of the test. Does anyone know any other ways this guy can go about taking his test somewhere and get his ticket. This man has been union his whole life even before the apprenticeship. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated, and please if you only ignorant response is for him to find a new trade, please just keep that to yourself, a union hand neeeds help.

    Default Union

I don't mean to be disrespectful...
" he's been union all his life". And he's treated like this..... ? ?

Hope he gets sorted with line work , some where some how... For him and his family's sake.

If unions get that close to management they ain't worth a dam. AS WAS SAID IN ANIMAL FARM..

( I looked from the pigs to the men, and the men to the pigs. " and couldn't tell the difference" ) .

    GOOD LUCK TO THE GUY.....
IF IT WASN'T FOR BAD LUCK WE WOULD HAVE NO LUCK AT ALL. !

I believe the individual has the right to retake the test after a period of time. It has been a while since I have seen a company or local treat a worker this way, but it does happen. look into the regs at the IO level then talk to the Business Manager of the local with the rules in your hand. The IO can over turn the local, and reprimand the BA. Good Luck, US & CA Tramp

    Default Apprentice

Vectors you got to be kidding me.I haven't used vectors since I was an apprentice 24 years ago.Such a small part of the job.I agree Bren, union in bed with company's not a good situation.Time for a regimen change! Why can"t he retake test?Sounds like they have someone else in mind for the job.

I take it he has already talked to his business manager at the Local Union and if he has and is not satisfied I believe you need to get him to contact the IVP office of the district he is working in to see what options for retaking the test he has. Nevada should be in the 9 th district.

I don't know about down your way but up here a fella can re-write no problem. Figures , a guy that is good at the trade might loose out because of a technical question that most fellas don't even use!!!
