Condolences to his family from me and my co-workers.
An employee with Sumter Utilities was killed Wednesday when he was electrocuted in a workplace incident.
Timothy Ulmer, 45, was working as a lineman installing a utility pole when he was struck by a falling power line, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred at 1:34 p.m. on Old Number Six Highway in Santee. Although the type of accident is listed in the coroner's report as "electrocution," the official cause of death will not be determined until an autopsy is performed today in Newberry.

Word on the street is....the job was done, booms down and outriggers up. Poor guy was rolling up some wire on the ground, and an automatic splice on copper wire let go and the line fell either on him, or fell on the old wire he was rolling up and energized it. I hate copper automatics! If somebody puts em on my truck, they get flung into the woods when I find them. I'd rather squeeze a sleeve and KNOW it won't pull out. R.I.P. Mr. Ulmer.
I'm much too young to feel this damm old!
What a way to go....hearing that reminds me of this old retired lineman that passed away last year,he also was rolling up some old copper primary,a automatic gave up and the primary fell on his shoulder......that day the good lord must have been watching......a plastic lineguard slid down the primary and that was the part that fell on his shoulder,so whoever put the guard on,I guess it served its purpose, the primary was hot,and he was a very, very lucky guy that day.
this happened to a friend of mine as well, luckily it didnt hit him, but came really close. burned the grass for about 100 feet.
