Hey Guys, I am looking to get a new bucket here soon, What would you get?
This is what i am specing--
42- 46' elbow
2wheel drive -auto tran.
Extended cab
I am going to be stuck with this truck for 10 years (unless i can get a office job sooner) so I want to make sure it's what I want.
We run freightliners with 42' high ranger boom right now. Also have a two year old IH maxxforce, under a digger, but we have had trouble with that engine.

Any info good or bad would be great! stay safe.

Don't go with another MaxxForce or MaxxFarce as I like to call them. Worst engine you can buy. We have huge problems with all years of the MaxxFarce engine.

I work trouble and we just got 3 MaxxForce. What is the problem you've had?So far the electronics have been acting up.We keep getting these alarms to check transmission,AC has stopped working for no reason and also had a problem where you switch on the PTO and master and the engine cuts out.Got some solved but I would like to know what to expect in the future.

Bad engines, bad turbos, but most of all it's the exhaust filter/exhaust system. Filter fills up, won't regenerate and leads to the engine getting trashed or at the very least 5k for a new filter. Mechanics hate them. For every two months they are on the road, they spend one in the shop. If you do some research you will find a lot of people whose livelyhood depends on those trucks who are pretty miserable right now like delivery drivers, bus companies, and so on. I wouldn't be surprised to see a class action filed against International.

The only other truck I've operated was a Freightliner and it never spent a day in the shop the whole time I had it. That was almost 4 years ago though..

I'm curious to see what other people drive and how they like them as well..

Do your engines have the urea added to the fuel?Ours don't and so far have not had any problens with the exhaust system but the trucks are less than one year old.We have some Freightliners,CAT engine.Engines are sweet, truck cab is not so good.We drive on the left here and the conversions from left to right hand drive was not the best.My unit had to have the water pump replaced last week.

I wonder if they have a different way of filtering the diesel for different environmental regulations. We don't add anything to the fuel. We probably have around 30 or 40 Maxxforces out of 100 trouble trucks and I would say half have major problems mostly stemming from the exhaust filter.
