I have a quick question(s)..1. How do you install one of these(do they just screw on like a connector) and other than the fact that the power is out, how do u know when one goes bad? Is there some kind of indicator? I ask only because i was going thru a town yesterday and there were no cutouts just current limiters. I have also seen places that use both. Any advantages/disadvantages? Thanx.

CLF are used where the Line to Ground fault current exceeds 3000 amps to keep the tank from rupturing on a pole mount transformer. Some companies claim the number of transformers failures from lightning goes down by using CLFs everywhere. Quick and dirty test is use a hot line indicator top and bottom of fuse this works most times however have seen some on a three phase pole where the indicator was going all the time from the other lines. Only way to know for sure is disconnect it from the line and ohm it. Several brands say they have a little plunger that is supposed to pop out when it blows. I have seen more bad CLFs without the indicator popped then ones where it did pop.
