Im just getting started and dont personally know any lineman and wanna know how to tie up a handline. I have a shiv and 80 feet of rope and have seen them hanging up in pictures tied up nicely but cant find anyone who knows how its done or anything on google or you tube explaining the way you guys do it. If anyone can post a link or video that would be awesome thanks. Maybe im calling it the wrong name when i google it ?

I keep a couple of 100m ropes for antenna rigging chained, but into a ring so it's easy to carry. Technique is pretty much the same as the video that Bren posted but if you are careful you can end up with a 3ft circle of rope with it all chained.
Throw it on the floor and pull the right end and it unwraps a treat, or carry it up the stick, hang onto the end and let the rest go... either way works.

I checked out the video and did some practicing with my rope ( took the shiv off ) but was wondering how lineman tie up there handlines that they use for lifting and lowering tools to the guy on the pole. From the pictures ive seen it looks like the letter 8 with some of the rope wrapped around the center?

As for rollin up a handline....the guy on the right is always the way I rolled mine up.
Thanks thats what im looking for. There was a group of lineman by my house working and i asked em how to ( i have the snap and hook with a block that opens ) they laughed at me which i expected but said they didnt have time to **** around which i understand thats why i was hoping there might be a video online somewhere? I dont know any lineman personally or through anybody or id definitely ask them. Id laugh at me too btw, some guy walking up with a handline just looped around his shoulder asking how to make it up.

Unfortunately, that's a lot of the attitude with linemen nowdays. I don't know where ya live, but maby try to find the showup yard for some of the crews....they might be a little more hospitable after work hours....or not. Ya really do need to learn to Braid rope though. And, unfortunately....that needs to be taught, not watched on a vid.
Suffer thru the god dman Ad....and this might help ya a bit.
