Coal is a bad word. "clean energy" is a good word.
Lets shut down all the coal plants. Even though under there beds is natural gas. Enough natural gas to power this country for a 1000 years. Umm rip out the conveyors and install pipe. Convert the infrastructure. Keep the corridors in service. Dont destroy towns with lost jobs.
Buy all your material from China and steel from India. Not only do you have the emmissions to produce the material, but the emmissions to move it 14000 miles. Tell the public, you moved by donkey teams or raft barges over the pacific.
You saved pennies. Your quarterly earnings are upbeat. But you lost 100000 customers because they have no jobs to pay their electric bill. Because you trimmed off jobs, to make a piece of paper look good for three months.
Power companies dont understand the ripple effect. What ever you divest out of this country you will lose in the long term. Take a tour of Detroit, Buffalo, Youngstown, Gary, Western PA, West VA, Indiana... 40 million people who think a good job is Wal Mart cashier. Who struggle to pay any of their
bills let alone electric.
What benefit is deregulation? This idea was to break up companies and make them more competitive. But it did the opposite. There is less competition. Prices are high. Infrastructure is garbage. Workforce is minimal. Reliability is at an all time low. But a piece of paper that goes to investors "looks good". But that balance sheet doesnt include the pain and suffering you put people through in your workplaces and the communities you service.
"Clean Energy" sounds good. But its ****. I am looking forward for Michigan to have the climate of Florida. I wouldnt have to go on vacation as much. And I can afford my electric bill.
