looking for some information on how everyone picks up down neutrals:confused:
1. do you kill out the primary before picking up neutral?
2. do you pick up the neutral with the primary hot?
I know OSHA says you are to treat the neutral the same as the primary, the company I work for is debating on what is the right way to pick up a down neutral, any feed back from others will help.
thanks.

Use rubber gloves until the neutral is sleeved back together or is jumpered out with a mack. Examples: Hoist across the opening until you can put a mack on it then sleeve it. Sleeve a piece of wire on one end long enough to get it in the air then jumper and sleeve it when sagged. Ground at each pole of the opening to a good adequate ground until it is sleeved. Rubber gloves is the key. Just my suggestions.

As Tramp said use your gloves, mac and sleeve the neutral. No need to kill primary unless the neutral got broken by an overheight truck and the neutral wrapped itself around the upper portions of the pole.

Thanks guys, I know how to pick it up, just wanting to know if everybody leaves the primary hot when picking up the neutral wire. or does your company require you to kill it out and ground before picking up the neutral. we have been picking up the neutral on an energized pole for the last 20 years, if there is anyone out there that is not allowed to picked up a neutral while the primary is still energized please reply.
Thanks
