Hi-

First time posting here. Thanks for all the info. I am a new JL. When I first became an apprentice my wife and I were a all starry eyed about the possibilities this career offered. Now that I have the freedom o f a JL I am looking for ways to maximize that. I could work in the region that I conducted my apprenticeship and that would be fine but I am looking for a new goal or change or something.
Kinda vague I know. Throughout my apprenticeship I have run into guys who all lead their own careers. Some work close to home as best they can. Some go to Southern CA to make as much money as possible in short time. Some work in awesome places like Hawaii or Australia...Africa. Some do they best they can to hit every storm possible. What do I want do to...?
I am interested in working abroad. I think taking my family to another country for a while would be great. I ran into a guy who spliced underground transmission lines. Maybe that would be a good goal. A whole new apprenticeship! Something to work towards.
The problem I am running into is that I don't know where to research these things. How do you go about looking for an international job? How do I get connected with a group of guys that want to chase storms? I don't mind doing work around my local and I wont disregard the good experience that I can get, and very much need, I just feel like I'm on the starting blocks but haven't found a direction to run.

On the starting blocks= exactly right. I will not try to be condescending because I don't mean to be, however I'm sure most of the long time posters here that are also long time Journeymen will agree that being a New Journeyman means simply that you have now done enough to actually now start learning how we do this trade.

It means that you are now qualified to step out--further REACH out--and begin self learning. Getting on this site is a huge wonderful step in that. Your ambitions regardless of of how lofty are equally impressive. Being a new Journeyman is an awesome accomplishment, however it is also just the beginning. You've spent the last 4,5,6 years simplify getting the tools you need.

It's up to you to use them.

Again I hope this does not come across as condescending or arrogant--it's not meant to be--and as always:
