Think back years ago about your first climbing instructor, mine happened to be an old timer named Mr.Johnson....I imagine he has passed away by now.Well most of you wont be able to remember their names anymore but can you see that same old man trainging a lineman the new way? You know with the squeeze and fall protection, and without being loud, being polite and all.:D

In 1969....My foreman, "Tiny Fossler"...all 300 lbs of him... told me as a "Grunt...wanna be apprentice"...
"Keep your a$$ out from the pole. If you're ment to be a Lineman, you'll learn how to "feel" how to climb".
Bout all the "Training" I got on how to climb.
Worked for me just fine.
Nowdays..."Climbin" is almost a curse word. Back in MY day...All I wanted to do was CLIMB!!
The "New Linework"...Teach em to climb in "Line school"...just incase sometime...they might actually need to do it.:D

Back in 1970 third day on the job the forman John Robotham an old gentle quiet guy asked if I would like to give it a try, took out his hooks suited me up and and got me up to the phone gain spent some time on the pole I sort of chewed it up going up and down. He was sixty two at the time a forman for about twenty years but he still carried his tools that he still would use if he thought you had a problem or if he was bored on the ground, the amazing thing was he would just appear on the pole he was a real smooth climber. I'll bet that most if not all the new guys hired started climbing on his crew he was well respected not a muscle mouth like a few bosses we had.
