It's feeling Christmassy ... The open fire makes the room lovely and cosy. ( mind you we are only allowed smokeless fuel in Dublin ). So it's special smoke free coal..
Off to her sister for Christmas Day .. Boxing Day at home..then the 27th a wedding in a hotel 60 miles away. Weddings are getting more popular at Christmas in Ireland due to the fact that so many of us work abroad and Christmas tends to have more family and friends home and able to attend. :)

Thanks ... And best to you and yours..
Smokeless coal ... Is exactly what it says. It's coal that is specially manufactured to emit no smoke. Sometimes called anthracite .
It is illegal to burn anything else in our fires. It has made a huge difference to air quality in the cities.. " and helps to stop acid rain. "
Burns with greater heat and lasts longer. But as usual , bit more expensive . ;)

If that's a tradition open fire then you should take a look at the solid fuel stoves. They give off a LOAD more heat for the same fuel. Absolute night and day. With an open fire most of the heat just goes up the lum.
Watch you don't get blown away by this wind!

Typical Scot.. It's more about having a nice fire in the hearth . If most of the heat goes up the chimney.. F..k it. :D
Bah humbug. :)
I'm not going out the door for a couple of days.so it can blow all it likes. Enjoying the company of the family " for now ". When they start doing my head in I might go and do a bit of fishing for a couple of days.
Are you in Glasgow or out on your island. ?

On the wee island in the Irish Sea at the moment. The solid fuel stoves have a big window on the front for viewing the flames. They just punch out tons of heat compared to the open fire because it takes a more complex air path and has lots of surfaces to radiate heat all around it.

Merry Christmas Bren!! I like the idea of the Smokeless coal!
Not bein a smartass, seriously... but here in Floriduh...we burn wood. Logs and Siht, when we want a fire in the fire place.
I DO understand though!! Spent a weekend with some friends in London some years back....they told me..."When ya get to the flat, the coal is in the cabinet, and the lighter is by the fireplace."
Bein American *******s....
We left em a note..."Love you guys, Lookin forward to seein you guys tomorrow. We're at the Hilton, room 202."
Sorry...My Kid was 18 months old. Back in 1980.
Anyway...Had a Great time with them and we all laughed about...Different strokes for different folks.
