Granted, cops and firemen have always been toated as "Friends of the public"....In the PAST.

Nowdays....I'm REAL leary of cops.
I still respect em...like ya got any other choice? Cops, ain't the Cops...we use to know.

But both of em to me at least, have lost the Respect I use to have for them. It's a "Job" man.

The "Media" has always glorified cops and Firemen.

I just look, and have looked at the media.... totally ignoring Powerlinemen, as "Media Ignorance and incompentance."

We don't shoot guns, and we don't put out raging fires...All good "Media".

A Lineman, up a pole in the back yard, splicing a downed primary...eh...Not so much...Media worthy.....

I find that Poots description of cops and firemen being "dumb as a bag of hammers" funny, and true. If you don't, no sweat off my scrotum.....

That being said, I been in this business 42 years and in that time linemen have never received the recognition for what we do. Oh, during a storm when we are putting power on then we are the greatest thing since sliced bread. 99% of the time no one knows us.

As for recognition, I don't need someone else telling me how wonderful and special I am, I'm too old a cat to get skinned by a kitten.......

I agree,I dont want anyone clapping,no parades...no pom-poms..no podium to speak from.....I know what Ive done but just cant remember sometimes what year I did it in.....the cops and firefighters can be babied all they want.....good for them.

If you got to know some of them I think you'd find out they are just like us. Of course they have there bad apples... So do we. Most of the one's I've met are pretty good people.

And I am sure during 9/11 they stepped up and went above and beyond, as did many civilians. Someone made a video showing people with private boats heading into Manhattan to help get those stranded off that Island. I'll see if I can find it again.

I could start ALOT of threads about people that SUCK everything they can get from the Govt. I'd be called "Racist" though.

Like Rob said...there's "Bad eggs" in every TRADE.

On the other hand...there are "Groups of People" that actually have Organizations, and a structured Apparatus, to assist all of their kind...to take advantage of sucking every dime and benefit, they can out of EVERY Govt. program in America.
