The I.R.A. We're found to have maps and plans of substations around London.. They even found plans to blow up a tower(pylon) that crossed the M25 " the motorway that circles London" ..

caused me some trouble . The day I started with the National grid , I got off the train and wasn't sure where the substation was that I would be based at... I asked a few people for directions " in what was then A VERY STRONG IRISH ACCENT". Some good citizen must have rang the police and as I got to the substation, it had to be established that I " actually worked there"

the first day in a new job...and this is the way I was introduced to my new work mates.....
And from then on ( even up to today) my nickname with the linesmen and fitters in Surrey. Is. THE BOMBER. :eek:
