Few pics from today while it was light. Just finished a 17 hour shift. Not a bad day.. But as usual they try and mix pole lines and trees. NOT A GOOD MATCH.... All the pics of the first fault we were on. Bit dark to take pictures latter.

"THANKS BIG O". :D
Statistically most accidents happen in the home. As I am spending very little time in that dangerous environment I should be OK.

I climbed this one.
You couldn't put poles in a more " likely to get flattened " place

Yeah in normal circumstances it would be. And we are probably fortunate compared to you guys. But we've had the worst sustained bout of weather for decades.
Virtually any fault I've ever been on has been tree related. .. But it keeps the car and motorbike on the road.:D

Wind finally dropped today. Had a good dry day so allowed us to get a lot of customers back on. Three spans under trees again. Then lots of small bits an pieces. Broken conectios/jumpers croos arms etc etc etc.
An met a few lads I hadent seen for years. Two lads I had as aprentices were with a crew that we worked with today. Hadent seen them in 7 years. One was a charge hand wiith his own crew. The other had really grown into a propper lineMAN. Great to see them still in the trade and doing well. Enjoyed seeing them an having a laugh about when I was their instuctor.... Then working aloNgside them... And was still able to show them a trick or two today. :D stood down af six o clock today as we were getting tired from three 18 hour shifts.fresh start tomorrow. Still plenty to do..

Hey Bren....lets say you guys had taller poles for your distribution lines, would that help any? Here its bad enough after a storm, but even our bosses wouldnt go for having short poles with primary voltages on them....well...wait.....that might just be the next stupid thing they do over here.....anyway good luck, theres nothing like being in a highly vegitation area all wet and muddy..........and cold :(

Size doesn't matter it's all about position.
This pole was obviously in the wrong position..

What happened there looks like it burned off at what we would call the neutral or ground.

There isn't a neutral on our 11kv lines. What happend is there was a crack in the fuse unit. What we do is bond the arms together on these poles. The bond wasn't secure .. So the fault was intermitant eventually it burned through the pole. Add a bit of wind and. "SNAP" . Easy fix though. New pole deliverd and an hour latter power restored. :)
