Yesterday while eating out having catfish I happened to notice three guys....right off the bat I knew they were lineman, without seeing their trucks or emblems on there shirts or anything....I just know by seeing the way they act.Well I sat two tables away from them and asked how their supervisor was doing, also asked about certain guys.We talked quite a bit about how the good old company got worse by the year....not that they knew much about the ways of the old company, but Im sure they have been told what it used to be like.Well the young foreman issue came up and they said one guy had only 10 years with the company.....sure he's qualified if you say so....Now that wasnt my interest....so I asked if it was true that the weight requirements had changed, cause it used to be that if you were over 280lbs and couldnt get below that in a certain amount of time you were fired. And I knew a few that were fired due to being over 280lbs.Well to make a long story short it was raised to 315 lbs........so I ask myself was this a ploy to get rid of a few and use weight as the tool to get that done? And I Imagine that the guys that were let go must feel really betrayed due to the change in the weight rule.......the bad thing about this whole deal is that the employees all were union members......so another question that you could ask is if the elected officals at the hall were over that 280lbs,why did they keep their jobs......and the mid-management types that were over that 280lb mark....how did they feel showing others the gate when they may have been heavier than the guy that was now jobless.....beats me.

Rep... I've never heard of anyone being let go but it has been an issue. The single buckets have a weight limit of 350 (I'm pretty sure), and Jibs are a higher. So, if you had a guy that was 300, throw in some tools, rubber, and some hardware and you're over the limit.

On storm about 4 years ago I worked with a group of guys from upstate NY. Whenever the General Foreman introduced his men he'd say.. " These guys can do anything, smallest guy I got is 325 and we call him tiny! "........And he was right.

Kinda in the same vein is something fairly new... I'm sure all the guys in the NE are familiar with it... Cargo Securement. Whole other thread !!

That general foreman should have a football team if he has guys that big.

I suspect this is more a litigation issue more than anything else.Companies covering their butts.
