I met o retired lineman this morning at the home depot ,he has been retired for two years. So we talked very little....he informed me that now the local utility can tell if your truck is idling......always has been that way, lineman leaving the trucks idle at all times.Well they have been equipped with GPS for years,so its no surprise.....BuT....the foreman will write you up for this violation....anyone else have this Rule?

Don't have a rule like that, but the company installed gps and laptops in out trucks. Laptop monitors if and how long the boom is out of the cradle......

We've trackers but they are only activated in the event of the vehicle being stollen. In Scotland however the vehicles were monitored at all times..they new what speed it was traveling at on any given section of road " and knew if we were exceeding the limit

had a few warnings while up there... The big brother aspect used to freak me out a bit..

Why is that? We had them years ago, where the PTO hours were monitored....it must be a maintenance issue huh?

It's not so much the supervisors don't have much to do it's they don't know the job so all they can do is rat out the people that work for them it's a dam shame what has happened to the utility industry since deregulation. They gave us the BS about how the GPS was there to help us in case we got into trouble they could send help and also they could send the nearest truck to a trouble location but all they've used it for is to punish someone for being at a coffee stop to long.

I work for a contractor , so I don't have to worry too much about big brother, yet. The truck I use in older and only has a unit installed that will track the location, anything else I think I would try to disable. I do not like big brother at all.
