I would like to know how much tension to pull on the .486" messenger that will be supporting 477 MCM 15 KV spacer cable. The longest span is 150 feet. I was taught if it's tight it's right, but I need to know the correct tension for the engineered steel poles we are looking into purchasing

You need a lot more information than that to calculate tension. Such as weight of conductor & strand, specs on structures, and specs on anchors & guy system to start.

Every wire has a " sag chart" for installation .. It gives the tension it should be pulled up to at what ever temperature it is on the day..
we use dynos to pull up to tension. But you can also use " sag boards" to measure the sag. We installed wire last summer. 26 degrees it was pulled up to 1.4 ton tension. In the winter it's 1.8 ton + ..so it makes a big difference.
if you pull it up too tight in the summer, when the temperature drops in the winter the wire will contract and cause damage.

What kind of messenger? As everybody else has stated you need a lot more information. When we used a 3/8" steel messenger we would pull it up to 3000 lbs. But you still need the proper sagging data for the type of messenger you are using.

Messenger is a Hendrix 052 Alumoweld-Aluminum (AWA) breaking strength of 17,120 lbs. I have not found the sag data for this wire. The spec sheet refers to SAG10 Chart which is a South Wire product that you have to purchase. Any idea where i can fing a sag chart for this kind of messenger?

I can tell you one thing you can prepare for, that's plenty of broken poles if you have many big trees, we use alumaweld 7no 8th's for a messenger which is about the same size as 3/8th's guy wire and through the years it has been the cause of hundreds of broken poles. We finally quit using the messenger altogether and just conventional frame the Hendrix cable and have had no problems.

If your company is using wire " THE SUPPLIER" should supply the information for installing it. ..your buying wire and I assume fixtures and fittings from them. They SHOULD BE happy to supply this information.... OR WHY USE THAT COMPANY...????????????
i would suggest ( besides good customer relations and common sense) that they would be legally obliged to give out this information for safe installation.
phone them or better still email them for this info... I'm sure they will be happy to supply it. I guess they would be happy that you are using their products ... BUT IF NOT. .. DONT USE IT...
