Ok, here they are.Why would you guys need training when you are all most likely above 40yrs old.......second question.....why would you train to install covering when you work everything dead??? 3rd and final question ....how long does the training last?

Heres what I done....I called the phone number that is on the side of that truck 0800-195-4141,since I had nothing better to do.I requested to speak to the CEO and had great results.Well I spoke to Mr.Steve Johnson for 25 minutes and informed him that I would like to join the team but I had one request. That request was to send you packing again, then I would join.He said he would be soon talking to you about showing you the gate.....so Im just giving you a heads up.....your friend reppy ..........:D

We were working for a different electricity authority. Now we've moved area " they have diverent SAFTEY rules" we are with a contractor for " the phone number"on the MEWP." We were working only HV so didn't do live working. But on LV we do our own hot glove work....there are three types of linemen over here
1.. Transmission....400,000 ,down to 132,000 kva
2. Hv linemen down to 11,000 kva.
3. Lv linemen. 400 to 240 volts....
It it wouldn't matter if you were a linesman for thirty years...if you move into a new area. ( the UK is split into several main distributors ) you have to be authorized in that area. The SAFTEY rules are slightly different .. And the training is for 5 days. Then you have to be interviewed by a SAFTEY panel then your on probation for 6 months.
After all that your authorization only lasts 3 years. Then you need to attend a one day refresher... :(

Years ago at the time I and a few of my buddies made Jy ,we had to pass a written and verbal test.Well even before that as apprentices we had to pass both. The last one which was the JY test was mostly written. But the old time supervisor insisted on a verbal too. Why, well that was easy.To show his power he could fail or not fail a guy,and he failed two guys that he didnt like in the first place. It wouldnt have mattered if they were smarter than Steve Jobs.....they would have failed cause he didnt care for them.To make a long story short, the union jumped in .So they kind of saved the day for the lineman involved. But the old time supervisor hated them both until the day he died.:(

So why is the guy putting on the cover doing it barehanded? Is he the demonstrator or the trainee?

Either way should be wearing rubber gloves. I never did believe that no one over there worked live.

It's always surprised me that the secondary is run at that height. I know it makes it easier to work on from a pair of steps, but I can actually just reach up and touch it from the ground.

the trainee was just getting a feel for putting on the covers. Rem these guys have never even seen this stuff before.
Latter on we livened it up and they did it with gloves ,face shields etc etc .. See pic. ;).

I noticed that too, good idea. Our companies might just catch on .Then again if it is against the rules, then people will still give it a shot :nightmare:

Reppy,
It seems the industry our side of the pond is ahead for once, eye protection for many companies has been mandatory for years and faceshields have come into play in the last few.
Even the metering guys are supposed to wear them when withdrawing fuses in case something goes flash.
I have to agree with Clive that working it off steps makes life so much easier :)

Rep, I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but take a look at the changes osha made to 1910.269. Face shields, are coming........😡 glad this will be my last year in the business.......

You are the bearer of bad news,I guess I could get used to all the new linework rules if I had too...but it would be easier if I was just starting out as a 19 year old.....Rope slings will be all but banned.Blue jeans too.Now I know how the old time lineman felt about having to wear hardhats.....by the way welcome back lbr .You survived those storms I see.

On a different note, have you used that hilux cherry picker yet,how dose it drive, how much it weigh, our boss hates land rovers with ever fiber in his body but we had to get a couple because they where the only readily available cherry pickers around but have seen/heard these hilux's are the new toy to have and you just know the hilux is practically indestructible

Im about sick of this weather and working in it...... Callin for snow ice and freezing rain tomorrow😡 maybe I won't answer the phone😉

I cant blame you,our weather hasnt been the best.Upper 30s and 40s at times, next day 70s or 80s...then back down to the 40s and back up to the 70s.But nothing like what your dealing with .Personally, one of the hardest things in my life is not to answer the phone when needed....its against my work ethic. And that might not be good, its an old way I guess.Maybe the young generation is right, they dont think anything of it.But if you text them you have a better chance.I feel for the guys that are short on lineman....because as you get older you understand more and more that there is such a thing as a break.Anyway good luck.

Not trying to be funny or anything ,but I wonder how many times Bren will actually do hot work giving the unusual short amount of time you spend at any given company .Seems like a moving company training would pay-off more in the short and long run to me :D.GET IT (SHORT):D.But what does reppy know?:(

Poece of cake Reppy ..
I was on my way to a round of the world superbikes a few years ago. Four of us set off from London to go to Imola .....
no problem going through France Germany " bit of Switzerland " across the alps ....
THEN WE HIT MILAN AT RUSH HOUR..
TRYING TO GET AROUND THE ROUNDABOUTS WAS MENTAL.
i remember one of the lads saying " the only way you can be on the other side of this roundabout IS TO BE BORN THERE"
"ALL ITALIANS THINK THEY ARE RACING DRIVERS.. " and God forbid they ever let go of the horn".
I think that's why the pope lives over that way. " THE DRIVING ENCOURAGES PRAYING ". ;)
