Thanks ,that tells us alot :(...how do they work.and what do they do?I know zero about them so it may seem like a dumb question but explain to the other member and me....please:)

A corona ring is attached to high voltage equipment to distribute the electric field gradient, and lower its maximum values below the corona threshold preventing corona discharge.
If you have ever gone under a 345 or 500 KV line at night when it is wet, and humid you can sometimes see a glow around the conductor end of a string of insulators.
You can google corona ring and get a more detailed explanation.

Thanks Mr.Tramp,I think the other guy was scared to ask the question cause he feared of being called a name or two.So basically I asked for him, cause I didnt know either. Thanks again.I may try to get a video of that....but it may be one of those YouTubes videos:nightmare: .Nice info that you shared .

Not saying those aren't corona rings but would love to understand why/how those particular ones work. My understanding of corona rings is that they go on the end of the insulator and serve as a shield of sorts to lessen/eliminate the corona effect from breaking down and damaging the insulator. All that stuff hanging down is no where near the end of the insulator and the contraption on the center phase is hung several feet away from the insulator string. Looks more like some sort of vibration damper assembly or something to me but that was just my guess.
Tramp have you installed these type before?

Looks like a ground lead or something of that nature on the center and outside phase, but none on the inside phase, like I said I've put some on before but none of them were anything like that.

You have good eyes,I didnt notice that until you mentioned it.And at first I thought one was mounted on the tower, but it is in fact on the conductor ,away from the middle phase tower due to clearance reasons .Anyway ..hey lashdawg were they installed on all the towers or just a few or every other one?

Looks like high voltage arrestors

Looks like some sort of metering device never seen that configuration on a line before.

You know KID,when you mentioned arrestors I could have laughed....I asked myself ..where did this guy come from? What kind of answer is that?......Well you were right and now I have to face the truth and laugh at myself:(...not a good feeling

Don't worry Reppy, I think a person should try to learn something new every day and today was your day...
