What you call a repeater switch is what I call a 3 shot.
It is a version before an oil filled reclosure for 1 phase.
1st fuse blows and drops to the arm which closes a knife for the second fuse, it the fault is still there 2nd fuse blows and closes a knife for the 3rd fuse and so on.
If 1 or 2 fuses are blown you can refuse the blown holders and open the blades in reverse order to get back to normal and the customers do need see an outage.
