A man who was electrocuted while trimming a palm tree on the Northeast Side Monday has been identified as a 23-year-old from Puebla, Mexico.
Jorge Lopez Gonzalez was working in the 3400 block of North Camino Suerte, near East Cloud and North Sabino Canyon roads when the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m., officials said at the time.
He climbed up past power lines to trim the palm tree and on his way down, he touched the 8,000-volt power line, said Battalion Chief James Stolten-berg, a Rural/Metro Fire Department spokesman.
After he was electrocuted, Gonzalez slid about halfway down the tree and became stuck there, Stoltenberg said.
Two of the landscaper's co-workers tried unsuccessfully to get him down, Stoltenberg said.
When Rural/Metro arrived, it had to call the Tucson Fire Department for assistance in getting him down, and Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was unknown on Wednesday if Gonzalez was in the country legally.
