can you just walk into a local union hall and get a job if your non-union now? I hve sent a e-mail to local 342 here in nc about 2 weeks ago and have not heard nothing yet so just wondering how it all works.

You sure can. They're just ordinary people. They usually have it open from about 8am till 5 pm. If they have no openings they can refer you to a local that needs hands. They can explain how everything works as far as retirement, insurance and other benefits. There are plenty of guys on this web who can explain it better than I. Take a day off during the week and talk to them. dbrown20
