This link is very disturbing but it certaintly drives home the point to always test dead before considering the line de-energized.

Nasty. Very nasty. You can't help feeling that certain common sense precautions were violated, but it's sobering to see such a graphic incident caught on film. (Very good for educational use!)

I was trying to see the path the current took, but the camera was swamped a bit by the flare. Just seconds earlier he didn't have the harness on....

It was all very well showing him concious in the hospital, but I wonder what damage was done to at least his right hand.

Makes me wonder if the 15KV that the power company had "supposedly" shut down was actually live or possibly carrying some residual that may have jumped when he came into contact. TG is right however, no testing was initiated to verify potential and NO GROUNDS were in place! None the less our little friend up top looked pretty comfortable in between the phases. A lot of potential if you ask me had the lines been fully energized.

If you watch carefully he seems to reach up for the line just before the flash, then as he slumps back something falls and dangles below him. Could that perhaps be a grounding clip he attempted to put on a live line by hand?

Link worked for me.

I even found another video. I don't think some firemen are trained very well.

He sure passed a lot of current..... Twice!

I'm surprised he actually survived.

Good training video for firefighters.

i cant belive a firefighter did that!! talk about poor training there!!

the first guy looked like he was using the line to pull him self up. yeah no test and ground....

stupidity hurts for a reason.

Maybe they were under pressure to put on a show for the "audience".

They sure put one on.

sarh99, you need to download the metacafe program to be able to download the videos. It's a free download, if you click on the link for these videos, there will be a place to click on to download Metacafe.

I didn;t need to download their software to view the videos. I think it may need Macromedia Flash to handle them though.

just goes to show that someone trusted someone else's word that the line was dead and didn't test and ground it themselves. one of the first rules. we all know it. trust only your eyes and sometimes check on them, too. :D
