Becoming Illegal

(From a Maryland resident to his senator)

The Honorable Paul S. Sarbanes
309 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC, 20510

Dear Senator Sarbanes,

As a native Marylander and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue
Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the
Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for
becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to
illegal alien stem from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate
and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is
accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five
years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and
income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I
see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone
figures it out.

Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes
every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of
taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can
apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result
for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency
room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying
premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost
$10,000 a year. Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my
daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school
applications, as well as "in-state" tuition rates for many colleges
throughout the United Statesfor my son.

Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of
renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance
premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age
children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal
(retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be
most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,

Pete McGlaughlin

Sad ain't it? :-)

I'm sure the new democrat congress will fix all that.
I hear they're gonna raise the minimum wage 2 bucks an hour too. Cool.

All that's gonna do is put the prices up on anything to do with Minimum wage labor.

Wonder what a Big Mac's gonna cost me? :-)

You mean other than a heart attack?

When you raise the min. wage you inadvertently hurt the rest of the work force. Theoretically this would raise the entire wage scale an equal amount. If the new burger flipper gets 7.15 an hour then the senior cashier would go to 9.15 an hour. Then the shift manager would go to 11.15 an hour. The asistant mangers would go to 13.15 an hour and the manger would go up as well. Hmmm lets see the effect. A smart, young capable man graduating high shcool......would he go enter a trade where he could be killed instantly and start off at 10 an hour? Or maybe he can swing a burger job....hell he isnt worried about long term things...like retirement...just about the paycheck he can get now.

Why reward people for not trying to better themselves? Damn min. wage jobs are for high schoolers working part time not for adults. Make people earn their living instead of giving it to them and then the country as a whole will reap the rewards.

There are too many jobs out there that are available that the "unemployed" are either too proud or too lazy to do. One thing is for certain, pride nor laziness has never put the meat on the table.....make them earn it.

I also like Rudy in N.Y. And I also agree that the 'greedy' folks will not give up their bonuses! It's passed along to the cunsumers.

You could not vote in a national election without military service
Do away with minimum wage
You could only receive welfare for 2 years in your life and you would not receive a tax refund until the welfare was paid back.
No foreign aid until the schools and health care in the US are the best in the world
Rape would be a capital offence
No more police actions over seas - if we are going to war with someone the only option will be an overwhelming military response with the end goal of total surrender of the enemy
Do away with motorcycle helmet laws and seat belt laws
Put a warning on cigarettes that say if you smoke you die (so quit whining)
Do away with the designated batter – they get paid enough to stand at the plate
No more than 10% of your pay could go to the government (that includes all hidden taxes in gas ECT.)
You must speak English to become a citizen
Toll road must pay for themselves in 10 years, after that they are free
Steal from a pension plan – go to jail for life
You must work at least 40 hours a week if you are in jail – no exceptions – If you don’t want to work then starve just like in the real world

Please send campaign contributions to me, so I can have a cold one.

Swamp,I got no problem with people who work for a living.Im an independant as,I think all people should be.If y ou were raised union and worked union, you might see things from a different point of view, like maybe the workers point of view. Why is it all right for politicians to increase their wages, and management to increase their wages and bonuses every year, doesnt that past the cost on somewhere? How could anyone compare a living wage to the greed we see everyday in our country?Maybe I dont get it,maybe Ive been brainwashed by the unions and labor.

Swamprat,
Unfortunately, there are many workers who do need a union to "protect" them and "get" them more money. There are plenty of unscrupulous employers out there. (Just read a few of Rusty White's posts, if you doubt that.) My union bargains for a good wage and safe working environment for me. In return, I must give an honest days work in a safe and productive manner. If either party fails to live up to that agreement, the contract provides ways to address the issues at hand. (ie: grievences, arbitration, e-board appearences, termination....) I am a member of an outside construction local, and I don't see an "us against them" mentality here at all. It is a co-operative effort to get work done - safely, and profitably for both the employer and the employee. We have both contractors and members who have loaned or donated land, equipment and their time to help with everything from training to rodeo / picnic events. Is everything picture perfect all the time? No. We are human, and thus fallible. But alot more good can be accomplished together than it can alone.

I've watched your posts for a long time Swamp and like some and can take or leave others. This one I can identify with though.
I used to be in IBEW 326 and the union was manadatory. No problem for me .
UNTIL.
There was a strike in 1972 or 3 and we were fighting to save the weather clause and increase our traveling expenses amongst other things.
The strike dragged on and on, not good for anyone. Finally the vote turned in favor of returning to work.
We lost our weather clause (the way it was written) and we lost our efforts to increase our trarveling expenses.
How did this happen you ask.
Because we were all lumped in with the office workers and nothing we wanted meant shit to the pencil pushers, but they had the numbers.
It's a sorry day when the pendulum can become balanced the other way by someone that doesn't know a volt from a transformer. And that's reality.
The IBEW should never have allowed office workers to be represented by a union who was also representing linemen. That's oil & water. A recipe for disaster.
So I can understand your feelings for not having someone who might not have you interest at heart speaking for you.
From my perspective you can look after yourself.
Happy New Year to everbody
