The boss even says this occassionally when he is making a point or trying to understand something. Or if someone has a burr up their butt and he says, "....yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm just a dumb ass linemen. Tell me how it's done then."
You ALL DO IT!!! I've seen it, read it, and I've heard ya say it. WHY? And if it's not that, it's about how you are either monkeys or apes!!
You guys would make an good Powerlinemen commerical. Seriously!!!!!

LA that is usually said when a manager tells a lineman HOW to do something (usually the fu(k&d up hard way) seeing as how most of us aren't "educated" with collage and such. We're just "dumb linemen". understand?

Well, I feel better, don't ya'll? Now we all know that Swamp is "gettin' it". Whew. Heh, heh, heh.

I think it may be a way the way lineman are treated sometimes, like they are a dumb ape, some managers are good at making you feel low and stupid. some people do not realize all the friggin work and knowledge it takes to be a lineman, so you dont go to college, you make more than alot of men that do.LOL, and nowadays a trade is the way to go,more work and more money.I think that if a manager wants to manage a linecrew he has to have been a lineman for at least 5-10 yrs, these managers that have never climed a pole in their life, should not be in the big seat. They have NO idea what it is a lineman has to go through as they have never been through it, well most have not anyways, they are cozy in their homes with their family while their linecrews are out in the cold, harsh climate all to make them look good. Lineman deserve alot more respect then they get. They are the reason that manager has that nice office$$$$$$$$
Yeah, that's the impression I get guys. Although I was making this a little humorous, I was wanting more of a definition for the phrase. And this is what I have received mostly from my experience hearing the boss.
And you are right. The knowledge that you have acquired is not all in books. It's what I call "on hands experience". The knowledge that the Boss has received over the years has been repetitious to some degree, but also some linework requires depth thought than just climbing a pole or getting in a bucket.
I've seen the Boss calculate how many man hours, how much equipment/materials, and how long a transmission line would take to build. And of course there are always those little "kinks" you can expect along the way, so alittle more might be added. And since he has done years of this (and has bidded with these same upper management folks at this utility he is working with now), his knowledge goes beyond just climbing up a pole.
You are right Re-Gen, you need the knowledge from the ground up.
Gosh, I wanted to write more but I have to go and get my blasted hair done! You laugh, but how many women do you know that has not had a hair cut or hair appointment in over 6 months???????? I bet not many! :D
Later guys and as always, THANKS!

Just an expression that has been around since electricity been with us. In some companies managments views us as dumb f**king lineman, till a storm comes through, or theres a CPA and the pole is on a car full of kids and the managers run the other way and let us take care of it.
As I said Grace, just a term Ive had for many years, but every Lineman on this sight knows who the real dumb F**cks are!!! BTW, if a supervisor or manager ever used that term to me or to anyone on my crew, they might use it once but they would never use it again!!!
