Anybody know of any work?

I'll settle for putting up static lines for a non-union contractor at this point.

I can't seem to buy my way back into my apprenticeshp and work is sparse (read: non-existant).

All my groundman hours don't count for shit at a new local either so I would rather take my 4 years experience to play lineman with the rats.

Any info on any work?

Best Regards
Daniel

I don't know what part of the country you are in, but in the northeast, the union halls are empty and most utilities are looking for perm. employees.

use direct methods such as posting openings on web sites like this one. I found several lineman wanted postings on a site from a State unemployment connected by a link from the states website. In this case I was just curious about where a particular place in southern Utah was and info about the area. During my search I happened upon the links to employment ops for the area and found about 6 lineman job postings. Ya might try something similar and see what you come up with. Good luck

I just moved to the Northeast, but like I said 104 is not empty. I'm on the waiting list for the apprenticeship but 4 guys from the last "bootcamp" class haven't even been placed at work.

I know the business rep there pretty well and he was worried because a lot of work that was supposed to start up hadn't and 8 guys got laid off when I went to sign the groundman books.

Groundman can't really buy a job anywhere right now.

The utility would be all right. What utilities in particular are you talking about?

Con-ed? National Grid? They all want qualified journeyman don't they?

Let anybody reading this that is an apprentice realise that you should never drop out of the apprenticeship or you will end up out of work like me!

Best Regards

You are right, you should never drop out of an apprenticeship if you're serious about becoming a Journeyman Lineman. My guess would be that the IBEW area Apprentice Training program feels that you had your chance and you gave it up so they will offer future job opportunities to applicants who they feel are more serious about becoming a Journeyman Lineman than you were.

Uh huh... You must feel better about yourself now.

You don't even know my circumstances or what kind of a hand I am.

As far as "a real union man" would never do this or that, you can just drop it because hunger will cure you of principle real fast brother.

Thanks for the help Swamprat. I'm in the Northeast now. I left California because there was no work there. I had sat on the books for over 6 months and I was supposed to have people helping me over here in 104 but they turned out to be unreliable.

I think the industry is contracting right now, due to the horrible economy.

Contact IBEW Local 42 in Manchester CT, You can sign the books as a white ticket groundman and see what comes available. If you have not already contact The Northeastern Joint Apprenticeship at www.neat1968.org and apply for the apprenticeship

Look at JCRUTILITY.COM OR CONTACT ICREEDAND SON. RAYMOND,N.H. We hired a guy that got kicked out of the apprentice program and he worked with us for 3 years and went back to the hall and got hired as journeymen-and thats a fact, so dont get discouraged Daniel-
