How long do you get out the batteries in continuous use? Does it have the option of lower light levels at reduced battery power?

i worked about 8hrs on a set of new batteries on high the whole time and the light seemed just as bright at the beginning of the night as it did at the end, i have used is on and off since then and its still bright i havent gotten to use it enough to know how long there gonna last but i think it tries going what output you ask for till it cant but the little light on top tells you how much battery you have to warn you, and i keep an extra set in my lunchbox

That's the joy of LED lights. Even as the batteries run down they still put out a crisp white light that is great to work with.

Does it take AAA's or AA's?

For heavy use the high capacity NiMh rechargeable cells are good.

take AAA i thought about getting rechargeables but havent used it enough to make it worth the money savings

One big advantage of the rechargeable batteries is if the torch doesn't have a current regulator built in. With ordinary alkaline batteries the torch would gradually lose brightness as the battery voltage dropped. With the rechargeable batteries the output voltage remains constant for the full charge of the battery so the intensity remains almost constant until the batteries run flat.

I wish more of these lights used AA cells instead of the little AAA cells. The AA ones have three times the capacity of AAA's.

i belive this one has a voltage reg inside it so its able to do it. i didnt think of the rechargeables in that respect. for a throwaway battery i like the cr123 lithium's i have a surefire flashlight that takes them and its BRIGHT!! also have one like that on my springfield scout rifle and you can see a long way with it. i wish the hardhat lights had theese batteries, they last a real long time and have a great power output. they also have the same setup in a lithum ion rechargeable.
