How many of you lineman out there are required by your employer to wear safety toe boots? And if so, are they steel or composite toe?

I am Pa, either steel or composite is acceptable. I hate steel toe shoes....especially in winter, its like wrapping you toes in ice cubes.......

I'm required to wear safety toe shoes, steel or composite. Steel are definitely cold, but composite are to thick for me to wear.

Not required yet, My old job I did have to, but it was nice they paid for them. Steel is cold in winter your right on with that statement. If you have to have them, do you wear like a Hoffman winter pac boot? Stay warm last week got called out at 12am, my truck said -17.

Hoffman pacs are heavy, but they are the warmest most comfortable most durable boot I have ever owned. I like that when you call hoffman you talk to a regular person.

Mainline, you are right on that they are heavy. Just wondering in winter when it is cold I wear iceman pac boots. They may come in a steel toe. They are a warm boot also and alot lighter. One thing they are not a climbing boot like Hoffman.
Ski.

I have worked for 2 different utilities and various union contractors and they all required some sort of toe protection. Funny thing is whenever I drop something on my feet it misses the toes and hits the laces:eek:

Yeah all of Hoffmans weight comes from the soles. The same lacrosse upper minus the sole is about the weight. I have the same problem everything that has hit my feet always hits about an inch behind the steel toe. Ben does white make a steel toe pac the guys on my crew have been eyeing them, but no one has dropped the cash for them yet?

Hoffmans are quality but man are they heavy. I have a pair of Old School Kaufmann Sorel steel toe/plate pacs I found this fall that are a lot lighter when I do not need the Hoffmann's support. You don't get on our mine site without CSA approved boots. It was -33C when I got to work this morning BTW.

We do not need any toe protection around here, KC - atleast for the construction side anyway. Dunno about the Utility Hands.
I second the Whites Pac, they're more comfortable than my Hoffman Poleclimbers on the pole. Seems like the colder it gets the better they work.

I have been planning to replace my Hoffmans this winter and I checked on Whites. No steel or comp toes in the White linemans pacs but they have a packer style with steel toes. Don't know about the arches though. I'll be going back to Hoffman. The last pair have lasted sixteen years. They're re-buildable but don't know if it's worth it.

Whites is a custom boot maker. E-mail them and see if they can make a pair.
