Hey Swamp, yea I seen that video on the choker,We currently using it (or are supposed to be using it) but I'm talking about the Jelco retractable thats used to climb thru attachments, so your never unbelted. Wondering how many companys, Utilitys or contractors have implimented it and linemens thoughts comments

By January of 2009 all apprentices and Lineman will be required to wear one while climbing at our utility. We know it as the Bucksqueeze but Im sure it's the same thing. However the company has said that we do not have to wear it if we detirmine the pole to be to congested or if we are belted above an attachment within two feet. Well where we work most of the shit is lot line and has 10 bell and cable attachments anyway. I have actually tried climbing with this belt and on a new 60 or 70 it doesnt seem like that bad of and idea. The company says it's osha driving this belt not them but i'm not so sure. we just hired some new apprs. in November and they had to use this Bucksqueeze along with a little box on their belt. It acts like a seat belt. It's used when climbing thru attachments. Well just last week the company detirmined them to be unsafe. We had several fail and not catch allowing about 6 feet of belt to come out. now they are using the bucksqueeze with a rope safety so there always belted in.

Were they clean falls or did the fallers try and grab stuff all the way down. Those things only seem to lock if it's a clean drop.
We got them for a completely inappropriate job where we were installing lighting round the upper perimeter of a water tower. They just didn't seem to read the bit about maximum extended length and got them in place of the much more expensive wire rope variety with longer reach.
The short strap ones are probably better suited to the pole application, but it's still another big lump on your belt.

I have one on my belt... it adds a pound to two to it but its not that bad. it retracks out of the way when not in use. I kind of like it once I got used to it. its only used as a secondary belt to get around obstructions.

Also when using them they are to go to your opposite D not choked or cliped to a piece of hardware.
