Can some one tell me what this is? Looks like a recloser with a charcoal grill. Animal mitigation?

Its wildlife protection. They work better then the old type that you wrap around the insulator and its covered except for where the stinger or wire comes out. The old type back home would fill up with rain in the winter and freeze and crack and eventually fall off resulting in the endless effort of installing them. Recently they started using the newer ones like the one pictured. Theres also some out that resemble a bicycle wheel with no outside. (Just a hub with spokes comming out of it.) The spokes are supposed to deliver a static shock to drive the animal from climbing any further.

warning to all. If you have not installed these type guards on hot tubs, Be warned that they are semi conductive. We had a trouble shooter who didn't know this and while installing witha shotgun, slipped or missed but took it between the H1 and H2 bushings and flash burnt part of his poy tail off. at first I thought what a dumbass but later reflected that they do appear to be plastic and I guess our company should have trained or at least sent directions out with the new product.

Strangely, flash burning off part of your pony tail desn't so much get sympathy as mirth. :rolleyes:
