ANy idea how much this will run me? I was gonna talk to my union guy and see if they can arrange something.....I don't mind paying, but i'd figure id maybe get a discount, since I'm bettering myself for my company...ANy ideas, let me know......
i would have to guess if ya had to pay a contractor for a cresote 40-5 installed i would guess about $600 but ya should be able to find a good pole for free and if your workin for someone there shouldnt be any reason why your foreman at the shop your at cant hook ya up and get it set for ya

I am in MA...just looking for a class 4-40 or something close to it......I get bored easy and climbing is a great workout......Free would be great even if it wasn't a virgin pole, but I would pay for one none-the-less, i have no prob with that, I just would like to get it done maybe next month[/I]

Alot of power companies allow old poles that have been changed out (eg: poles changed out to taller poles for new construction, ect) to be given away. Ride around and if you see any line crews working on pole change outs or something and ask if they would be willing to drop an old pole off at your house for you. I always give em a little cash for their efforts. And it might be against their policy but if you dig the hole for them beforehand they might even set it for you if your lucky. Otherwise your gonna need a backhoe and a log chain or a case of beer, a bunch of buddies, and some pike poles. lol
Good luck

If you are working in the industry, you should be able to get one pretty cheap. I would caution you not to put the pole at your house to practice climbing on.
1) Everyone needs time away from work, and if you have a constant reminder sitting in the yard, it will begin to get to you when you want to forget about it.
2) Training is best done in the right environment, and I am not sure climbing at home, alone, is the best thing for someone to be doing.
3) Homeowners insurance and health insurance company may not like the idea of you doing that at home. If you have an accident, they may not want to pay.
4) When the pole gets too worn out, or rotten, you have to deal with getting rid of it.
5) If you want a work out, join a gym.
I would suggest training in the training yard at work, or OJT. Don't take it home with you.
But do whatever makes you happy.

What has this trade been reduced to? I have never heard of a Line Crew in this part of the country anyway- who wouldnt jam a changed out pole in the ground for a Brother for either a case of beer or 2 or a good half gal of whiskey!
