My company has recently bought a bunch of gang swithes like you mount on a 3 phase a pole. The Brand name is Bridges 25 kv rating, 900 amp, you work these with a long stick. Recentley we had one that would'nt open. We took it down and replaced it. After we got it down we were able to open it with a little beating and bangin. Just wondered if anybody else had the same problem.

Did you analyse it to see why it had jammed? Is there pitting on the contacts to suggest that maybe the contacts had slight arcing that had welded them together? (Particularly if it picked up load live.)

unpin all three of the stacks that rotate from the arm that opens and closes the switches. now you can open and close each phase by itself. usually one of the switch blades isnt lined up or its hanging up on something. by operating them alone you can usually narrow it down. Same thing when adjusting a switch that won't close all the way. pull the cotter pins pull pin and close each switch all the way by itself then you may have to move the attatching hardware out further to repin into bottom of the rotating stack. Always start from the furthest switch from switch handle.

We use Bridges stick switches on 12 and 35kv. They work well though some of them operate dry. We have found that especially on the 35kv switches you have to be lined up directly under the switch to operate it. Hook onto it with an extendo and basically give it some. Other than that check for adjustment.
