I've noticed the option lately in profiles. However, I'm not quite sure what it means. What I mean is, I know that some put Journeyman. I get that. But, what does it mean if it has "Black"?

Are there different color codes for the rank of a lineman in other parts of the world or is it in the USA too? Does each country have different "cards" as linemen?

Uuummm.................not everyone has that as an option.

Oh, don't mind me guys! Carry on! I know you boys are busy!

I've never heard of the color code for linemen, however, I do believe there are a few of us that may have a "Black Belt" in BS. Now I'm not saying I'm there yet, but it is something I aspire to.

LOL! Well, for someone that says his occupation is "being a pain in the ass" I'd say that was aspiring to something! :D

I'm not crazy guys. It's in some of the guys profiles here under "Lineman verification".

There is no differance in the color of the ticket there all yellow but a unionhands ticket would say JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN under classification and a white ticket would say LINEMAN. Thats why so many unionhand get mad when non union hands call thereselves JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN BECAUSE THERE NOT. IF YOU DON'T HAVE PAPERS SAYING YOUR A JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN THEN YOUR NOT ONE SO DON'T CALL YOURSELF ONE. ITS A HONOR TO BE CALLED A JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN AND IF YOU NOT ONE DON'T TRY TO CLAIM IT......

"Official Pain in the Ass" you see, that is a job description. The Black Belt in BS is a hobby. Not that I haven't thought about making it a profession, I just can't make a living at it. On to one of my other hobbies, I ran a 1/2 marathon Saturday in 1:31:22. Not bad for a 51 year old pain in the ass.

Okaaay, I wasn't trying to start anything...........HONEST. :D That's why I posted this in BS WestCoast and NOT in the Linework forum.

But, could you tell me why it's marked "black" in your profile?

Most men in your line of work "seem" to be making a living at it Duck. :D

I've never met a lineman that didn't talk a whole heck of alot of it! :D

In order to access my profile, I had to answer a question in my profile. The answer to the question is "BLACK". I think that's why it says black in the profiles.

Must be something new then. Some of us don't have it and I know those of us that don't have probably accessed our profiles for some reason or another.

I wasn't for sure if it was something you had to put in when registering. Oh well. Just shows ya I'm curious about even the smallest things. :D

Trampline,
You list your location as Iron Range. Is that the Iron range of Minnesotta or Michigan?

For a moment there I thought the question was going to be:-

Is yoos a white man or a black man? :D

Incidentally, you've just kinda given the answer out, although if it displays it in the profiles it doesn't do much good anyway. Besides, while traditional rubber amalgamating tape is black, the modern silicon versions are available in a wide variety of colours.

I guess a question like that could be used to filter out spammers, but then again it would also filter out new guys who were trying to get into the trade.

I wonder what happens if you type in "Pink."

The question I got was -- What color of tape do you cover the split bolt with? I answered "none" because I have never taped a split bolt. It let me try again. Thank god.

Thanks for all of your replies guys----well, on this particular question, that is.

Gentlemen, there is a lady present. RWD's comment was likely meant with no disrespect intended, but frankly, the innuendo was clear. LA is a fellow brother lineman's wife, and above all a lady, she should be shown the same respect we show our own wives and our coworkers wives....or any lady for that matter. If no disrespect was intended, thats great, but lets all use some decorum when we are graced with the presence of a lady on these forums.....

I should have PM'd LA on it. It was off the cuff and ... Well LA and I go back a ways. My deepest respect m'lady.

What swamp you decide to quit talking politics and go for me? Yeah I know about relays, differential, directional, time current, instantanious and the rest I know the numbers that go with em too. yes I know about SF6 heating it before you put it in so it won't be liquid. how the gas will turn to liquid. Also know about old GE oil breakers, new ABB breakers, Alstom breakers, know about circuit switchers , tap changers, loop switches, arcing horns, grounding. Not much to setting relays nowadays not to many you have to hook the box up to nowadays with the SELs, DGPs type relays just hook up laptop and put the settings in. Your right I also know how to work on regulators, switch on regulators, bet you most likely blew up a few not putting them in neutral. Also know how to dig the foundations, build the forms, pour the concrete, and place and put together the transformers or breakers. Work on ground switches, wire relays, test relays, doble test transformers, sudden pressure relays, mechanical relays, climb a pole, frame a pole, string wire, hang a transformer, worked with hot sticks on 138kv, never did any bonding onto a hot line. Had the piss knocked out of me working on 765KV with the grounds on both sides from the static quite a few times, know how to start and run a turbine, work on it take it apart and put it back together

Any more questions about my past? Since you questioned mine what can you do??????:D
