As some of you know, I have a brother that is a quad. What this means is he can't get too hot or too cold in his condition. The local REA is familiar with him, but sometimes it can be overlooked.

Once there was an outage, and the truck pulled up in his yard and left---without doing anything. The next morning he was still out of power. My mother called and explained and wondered why they didn't have power yet. Disbatch said they were told to go in that area. The call ended up with the supervisor and he was a friend of the family. He got right on it and even gave my mother his cell number and home phone.

I told my mom that I think she would have to fill out something for them to be aware of it and not just depend on them to remember that he is in that area where the power is down or out. She said that my brother didn't want to be singled out. He is just that way. But, I told her to go and do it. Or at least get the necessary papers to bring home for him to sign.

I even feel like he could get assistance for buying a generator. I know a few years back while all the hurricanes were hitting around here, that we had a plan to all head out to get away. I remember thinking I wished be had a camper trailer. I mean, for a while there....it looked like a way of life getting hit by a hurricane.

Anyway, what provissions or help is there for those that have disabilities. Do you all have a running list of the folks (besides the hospitals, nursing homes, homebound, etc) that you know have to have power?

My folks are gettin on up there and an evacuation is pretty hard on them. So I just recently installed a natural gas 17 kw generator with an automatic throwover scheme. It will carry the entire house including the AC. I had the wire and the total cost of the generator, throwover switch, and gas line was just a tad over 4 grand. Not that bad for peace of mind. I did all the labor myelf including the wiring and plumbing for the fuel line. Its sumpin to think about unless yera inna flood zone

My utter brutter Darrell has a generator and they mentioned using his. But, I'm like you, better off getting one that carries the entire house including the A/C. No flood zone. They are at least 6 miles from the river.

We have a list carried by every crew truck, supervisor, and in the main office; of consumers on life support. We mainly use the list to give them warning and/or shift times for scheduled work. During minor outages we move these lines, and individuals, to the top of the priority list. During major multi-day outages, hurricanes and ice storms, we call them and give them an honest estimate of how many days they will be out and then advise them to leave home for somewhere with power. To get on the list is a half page form that has to be signed by a Doctor. The most common reason is people using oxygen concentrators.

we run into people who are on oxygen from time to time, when u are a contractor you dont have a list of people who are on oxygen or any thing else that would require the power to be on. there is suppose to be a red x on the transformers, that would let u know some one has a medical condition that is being fed from that transformer. you never see the red x on the cans so we knock on all the doors before taken an outage and if some one is on oxygen we will so something so they dont lose power. then we will go put a red x in marking tape on the transformer for other people to know
