Are 5 wire meter loops illegal. 3 down to feed meter, 2 back up to feed consumers side. Thank you.

I don't see why it would... I've put up a up-down meter loop within the past 6 months or so... whatever is past the meter is the customer responsibility.

A utility probably wouldnt hook up to it,unless the load wire were in a seperate conduit.as it would be too easy to make some kinda connection in the conduit and bypass the meter.If its unmetered I would guess it shouldnt make a difference.

We call it a barn yard hookup. They are 6 wires here though and in seperate conduit (line and load). My service is rigged that way so I didnt have to share a panel with the garage, just the meter.
