Hey whats up everyone I am new to the site I have been a lineman for 6 years and a apprentice for the previous 4 I work for amtrak, yes I am a railroad lineman a little different then probably most of the lineman on this site but I still stab sticks and skate metal its good to get to know fellow line brothers out there. anyone else out there on the rr let me know

I am NOT a lineman. I stick around for the show mostly. :D Actually, I don't do much of anything here! LOL! I use to ask loads of questions.

I have some for you though. I read in "how do you know if a lineman can cut it" thread that some don't make it because of the trains. That is a different aspect to linework. What makes it different? How is it different?

I'm a visual type of person and since I don't work in the trade, I'm trying to picture what you work in. I've never been to Philly, so I'm trying to imagine the difference or the uniqueness of your situation. :D

I've been to the mountains, I've been big cities (Miami, Atlanta, Jacksonville, etc), and I've been to CA. Yes, I kinda look at the powerlines and see how they have been built in different types of environments. It's interesting and I usually ask my husband(a lineman)-----or here, if I have questions.

So, would you happen to have some pictures RR? :D

well I work as a lineman on the railroad for amtrak there trains run on electricity from boston to richmond we work on this system while the trains are running its dangerous and you always got to be on top of your game here imagine being up a 100 ft steel pole at the top and when you look down you dont see a street or a back yard you see a blanket of wire underneath you streching across 4 tracks maybe more in some areas that is 12,000 v and above you is 138,000v transmission and on top of that trains are running at 135 mph and dont stop for anything that seperates people real fast we climb 90% of the time because you cant get trucks into most of the areas we work at it can be a little unnerving for anyone its a great and rewarding job though I love it its different then working on utilities as we run a single phase setup with a ton of section breaks I will send you pics

Yikes. Glad the Boss didn't work near an amtrak. Jeeze. Rural area here and the old trains are mostly gone around here. Sad, but that's progress I suppose.

they are daytime pics we do most of the work at night when train traffic is a little slower I took those pics at various locations on the northeast corridor

At night? Holy cow. Hopefully you have good lighting.

Whole new meaning.....working above the tracks. :D
