Never put steel poles together before, is there a easy way to do it? The poles are all 2 pieces. They range from 55 footers to 75 footers. We have jack plates and I read that you are to use dish soap to help slip together. Any advise would be appreciated.

Well if you have never done it before, how do you know it's not easy?

Don't really understand you asking a question like that. Give it a shot and then come back and tell us what problems you had. It's just a pole. Your not building a bridge.

Never had any issues following the manufacturers recomendations. We've put the little 55's together on the ground and set them and put the 110's together and set them without any issues.

dish soap helps, so use a sh!t load and jacking them together works, but we used to get the two pieces together on the ground and then place the top against the escavator blade and have the rubber tire hoe push on the butt. Pressed the two pieces, set the pole.

If you have to do any drilling, make sure you have a mag-drill, a good tape measure, level, and about 12 sharpie markers, cuz ya always lose the one you just had in you hand.:D

put them together on the ground. set the bottom piece on some cribbin. pick the top piece on balance and slide it over the bottom piece using polywater. put one hoist on each side of the pole jack the pieces together until you reach your desired length. take hoists off. mag drill and put a through bolt to hold steel pieces together. frame pole. set pole on cribbin. find balance. set sling above balance a bit making sure butt is heavy. choke sling in desired position. set the pole.

It not that complicated, I 've used two cats and pushed them together, set the bottom and when the top comes in some times you might have to finish getting them to together with two hoists. Some Power companies want to see the hydraulic jacks used, but main thing is to mark the minimum and maximum on the bases so you know if you are there.

Thanks for the info. Haven't see the prints or anything yet. poles came in the other day and we unloaded them. I was told yesterday that me and my crew which consist of 2 first year apps. will be putting the poles together and setting them. All holes are predrilled except for riser poles where the unistrut goes. I'm up for the challenge I like new things, just trying to get some info before hand to be prepared.

usually did it the way Drifrter and Scratch said... never used a lube though always joined them with bistamastic... I prefer 2 6 tons to the hyjacks.... the 2 coffins make them joint togeather alot more evenly...

if your ever popin the top in those bastards to put in an extension make sure you put some counter riggin on them... they can just give way and you'll see the top of the tower go flying into the boom or sky crane when you crack it... I recommend the 4 sling 2 hoists in that case...

for what it's worth

We set a bunch of 80-110' .... soap helps.

If you are not using the pole that have a through bolt ... leave the jacking plates on with the chain falls in place... stand em up and gravity makes the work a lot easier.
