Anybody ever thought about or actually moved from being a lineman or troubleshooter to a different position, lets say staking tech or metering department! Anyone ever miss the line afterwards!!!!???!!!

Are you retiring in 3 years Edge?

If so, and you're used to putting in a real days work then it's going to be a massive and potentially very boring change of lifestyle.

Many moons ago I realised that the whole pension system was a scam and that I didn't want to wait until I was about to die to get a break from work. So I decided that as a single man with no real commitments I was going to spread my retirement out over my life. Basically speaking I work about half the year and have the other half to myself. It works well, and I suppose it's like retiring every year, so here's my experience of it.

I work for about six months nearly continuously and then suddenly stop. When that happens time really goes slowly because when you're working your body seems to step up a gear and it means that as soon as you stop it's as if the clocks in the house are all running slow.

Having all that free time is nice, but you may find you don't have much incentive to get out of bed in the morning and may waste a lot of time sleeping. Then you try and find things to do, and you can only spend so much time with a hobby.

It's usually a relief to get back to work again.

Why would anyone want to go to a meterman job from a lineman that's a huge step down... Lineman is the best job in the world...

Yeah I retired at the end of 2005. Enjoyed all the free time for bout 6 months and then I was bored stiff. So I went to the hall took a call and been workin ever since. I know at some point we all hafta quit but til I hafta I aint. I need sumpin to keep my mind workin.
And as far as swappin to sumpin else nope not fer me.In My opinion I wouldnt began to even think bout workin in the various support groups like meter man or storeroom dude or assistant engineer or any of the rest of them lackey jobs. And why learn a new trade when I'm aint through milkin all the goody outta this one ?
