If some of you retiree's are looking for a little extra 'jingle', you might want to check this out..........
It's an outfit called UTILITY SUPPORT SYSTEMS......
www.utilitysupportsystems.com
It's an Engineering firm , based in Georgia, and has offices in several different states, and covers 12 states in the South.....(AR, MO,TX, LA,MS, GA, AL,TN, GA, FLA, NC, AND SC) and they do DAMAGE ASSESSMENT after Hurricanes, Ice Storms and the like, and then will do a walk down/inventory after Restoration is complete for co-ops, and major utilities (among other engineering stuff).......they've got like 25 openings in Arkansas for Damage Assessors and 25 for Damage Assessor Assistants, and several other states too.............it's casual/as needed basis..........the only major thing they ask for is , a Minimum of 10 years experience as a lineman, and the ability to recognize company owned eqpt versus customer owned and to identify related eqpt, and ability to draw a sketch and material list for crews for replacement, and tell the difference between electrical and Bell and Cable TV..........stuff that even Swimpy might be able to do:D:D.......j/k swamp!!
Some of their clients are Entergy, Progress Energy, FP&L, Alabama Power, Mississippi Power, and a bunch of co-ops......
Not sure on what the pay is, and it sounds like you might use your own vehicle (am sure they pay mileage), something in the requirements about having adequate vehicle insurance, probly Full coverage........and of course, they require a piss test, 3 yr Driving record check, and a 5 or 7 yr Background check.........
Anyway, I got a resume sent in to them for 1 of the Arkansas jobs........all of the jobs I saw posted on their website closed on July 1........I guess I'll know something after the first of the month.....probably while I'm in Denver on a little vacation!!!!!
----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----
There is another outfit too........out of N Carolina I think...called U C SYNERGETIC.......www.ucsynergetic.com.........on their website, you register online to be part of their Storm Team, then they send you a Contractor/Sub-contractor Agreement in the mail........am waiting on that, but I haven't seen anything on that deal where they ask for experience/qualifications, but read part of the agreement online, that says they furnish a rental car, but you pay the gas...guess they reimburse you.......don't know, but might find out more when I get the package in the mail.............this is the outfit that JD426H says some of his old buddies at Progress Energy in N Carolina do.........
Think I'm gonna see what pans out with the other outfit, since they got an office about 100 miles from me..........before I try with the Synergetic outfit....
