If some of you retiree's are looking for a little extra 'jingle', you might want to check this out..........

It's an outfit called UTILITY SUPPORT SYSTEMS......

www.utilitysupportsystems.com

It's an Engineering firm , based in Georgia, and has offices in several different states, and covers 12 states in the South.....(AR, MO,TX, LA,MS, GA, AL,TN, GA, FLA, NC, AND SC) and they do DAMAGE ASSESSMENT after Hurricanes, Ice Storms and the like, and then will do a walk down/inventory after Restoration is complete for co-ops, and major utilities (among other engineering stuff).......they've got like 25 openings in Arkansas for Damage Assessors and 25 for Damage Assessor Assistants, and several other states too.............it's casual/as needed basis..........the only major thing they ask for is , a Minimum of 10 years experience as a lineman, and the ability to recognize company owned eqpt versus customer owned and to identify related eqpt, and ability to draw a sketch and material list for crews for replacement, and tell the difference between electrical and Bell and Cable TV..........stuff that even Swimpy might be able to do:D:D.......j/k swamp!!
Some of their clients are Entergy, Progress Energy, FP&L, Alabama Power, Mississippi Power, and a bunch of co-ops......

Not sure on what the pay is, and it sounds like you might use your own vehicle (am sure they pay mileage), something in the requirements about having adequate vehicle insurance, probly Full coverage........and of course, they require a piss test, 3 yr Driving record check, and a 5 or 7 yr Background check.........

Anyway, I got a resume sent in to them for 1 of the Arkansas jobs........all of the jobs I saw posted on their website closed on July 1........I guess I'll know something after the first of the month.....probably while I'm in Denver on a little vacation!!!!!

----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----*----

There is another outfit too........out of N Carolina I think...called U C SYNERGETIC.......www.ucsynergetic.com.........on their website, you register online to be part of their Storm Team, then they send you a Contractor/Sub-contractor Agreement in the mail........am waiting on that, but I haven't seen anything on that deal where they ask for experience/qualifications, but read part of the agreement online, that says they furnish a rental car, but you pay the gas...guess they reimburse you.......don't know, but might find out more when I get the package in the mail.............this is the outfit that JD426H says some of his old buddies at Progress Energy in N Carolina do.........

Think I'm gonna see what pans out with the other outfit, since they got an office about 100 miles from me..........before I try with the Synergetic outfit....

Guys....Guys this is an exploitation of Corporate America to exploit senior citizens. Quanta's rat side has been calling lots of retired or close to retirement lineman and offering pennies on dollars for what the going rate is for inspectors.
Do the industry a favor and do not get on this band wagon since there are folks that make a living as an inspector. The wages they are offering you is like what the illegals get for their labors.

Come on Drifter!
Us 62 year old fu$ks, just suppose to wither up and die?

ALL SORTS of people, and companys are hiring "experienced, retired bastards, and bastardetts. We're RELIABLE, HONEST, and willing to work..."part time". With a "Smile". "Exploit" senior citizens?:D

I haven't decided yet whether I'm gonna sign up...let me rephrase that....I haven't got permission yet.

But I'd Fu$kin LOVE it!!!! They'll probably fire me though....cause I don't do ICE no more. It ain't about the money. Don't even know what it is. Just know it's a needed "service" in MY expertice, and thank god, I'm still able to do it, and would love to.

AND...after 40 years of marriage....What's she gonna do if I DO want to do it?
Divorce me? Good luck with that. Will be interesting to see what they pay though, and what the "terms" are. I'm gonna probably sign on tomorrow, just to get the "Info", just like Trouble.

We'll "See" what the hourly rate is. If Trouble don't tell ya....I will. Let's just see.

So far Swamp....I haven't seen anything on their site that says anything about money.........basicly, it tells what the company does, and it's a lot more than DA and walk downs/inventory/Inspections.........it lists where the jobs are, by region/state, how many openings, and then it'll give you a job description...........the USS outfit does say on the job description for Damage assessor, that it's 95% Travel, but what's living out of a suitcase for a while.........been there done that..........I would imagine, I stand a pretty good shot at the job I put in for, with my experience, and the fact they got 25 slots open:D, and would imagine, that the money will come into play when you get an interview, and then, If I am offered a job, and I like it, I can take it or turn it down and say..sorry, I'll pass!

There are some storm/hurricane pics on their site, and one shows a camping tent with a USS sign hanging on it , and I think it was Hurricane Rita, but we all know how that goes........get there first/fast, get a motel room, get the late and it's tent city!!! Been there and done that too, although I prefer a motel room:D

What concerns me about the outfit in N Carolina....U C Synergetic......is like I mentioned earlier, I've seen nothing on their site, about Experience/Qualifications...............that has me wondering, you register for their Storm Team, they send you an email and you can enter their Storm team site and get some more info, and they want you to send them a picture and they make you an ID Badge, also it says on their site, that they will furnish a rental car/vehicle and I think transportation to the job, but it says you gotta pay for the gas, and I'm sure that they reimburse ya, it seems funny to me, if they are gonna get ya there, and rent ya a car, then they ought to be footing the gas as well........ but like I said, they are supposed to be mailing me some info, waiting on that!

All I can say is we'll see when the time comes!!

As far as Drifter........oh well.......I ain't seen nothing that mentions Quanta/Pike or what ever as he put it.....................................

I can see the exploitation of Seniors.......hell yeah, we know what the hell we're doing!!!!

Ok.I just got some more info...........

USS pays $30/hr plus OT on Storms.......Scale out of the Hall here is less than that!!!

Use your Personal vehicle, they pay ya mileage.........2 men per truck and a laptop..

Ability to turn down a job, but imagine after a few turn downs, you drop off their list...

Thanks Brother for the info!!!!!

Good luck my man! I just ain't drivin my own truck.

Decided not to fill out that thing with SYNERGETIC. Gonna call em instead.
Tried today...got a recording, said..."we'll call ya back". Just hung up.

I'll call em tomorrow...and leave a number. Think I want to "Hear" what's on the other end of the line first.

Yeah, I called USS the other day and the guy I needed to talk to wasn't there...talked to a secretary and she said to email a Resume.....did that, was gonna call today, but was up all night...pulled a muscle in my shoulder manhandling a dbl door refrig/freezer the other day and the pain pills had my head kinda screwed, with No sleep...........gonna call them back tomorrow for more info!!

As far as using my own truck.......it's paid for, got a couple of scratches/small dents, and 120K miles....and never let me down...yet anyway......so it don't bother me...hell if I wreck it working, insurance will get me a new one!

hell if I wreck it working, insurance will get me a new one!

Better be careful, some insurance companies would try to get out of the claim if they know you are using your truck as a "work truck" if you dont report it. Of course if you do the damn claim goes up every month.

Waiting on my Insurance Agent to call me back............part of the terms of empolyment is the Required Insurance.........was told an empolyee of the outfit had the additional added to 2 of his vehicles and the added cost was like $60/month
