UMMMMMM If I worked for a Utility and they couldnt come up with 3 tubs big enuff I would never ever suggest doin that.... Its a cinch they would never come up with the idea to use 2 poles n tie it thru the secondary.Far as I am concerned it would be their prollem and they cud go pot shopping.

Seams like a lot of problems down the road. Sure It would work fine but ya got to think about the Out of Town crew thats gonna work that line someday. I would hate like hell for some crew to open the cutouts on one pole and think the High side bushings and secondary are dead. or have to change a broken cutout and not realize the banks are paraleled. Its one thing to get a customer back in power temporarily but to build a trap permanent is a nother story.

Worked on a property once where that was standard procedure. It was well understood by all linemen on that property that many pots were paralleled. You just worked it thusly. Any pot or bank opened was shorted before going any further.

I admit it might seem tricky to some but they did that for years. I think there's others over the nation that did it also.

To me it was just like always being aware of backfeed. Knew of some close ones because of backfeed. You gotta be aware, that's all.

If it gets any easier they'll have women and children doing it. Come to think of it I have seen women and children doing it.

Hell if Swampgas could do it, most any idiot can luck out.

...all I am basing on the fact, that you COULD do it, if you WANTED TO. :)

Used to have alot of secondaries paralleled round here. They had these nifty devices called tie cans. They were basically two circuit breakers in a box on a bracket at the mid point between cans. They had 2 tabs one for each breaker so you could open and close them with a stick. Good idea but very dangerous and bad design. They got alot of men burnt over the years. The indicators on the tabs would lie or the spring in them would close them back on its own. Hell seen a guy climbing a pole after opening the tie can and half way up (he wasn't light on his feet at all and everything on the pole shook when he was on it) the bouncing secondaries cause the tie can to close on the next pole down and burnt down the secondary.

Theres still alot of the tie cans around here but now its standard practice to cut the leads at the dogbones and at the tie can so it cant be used. A lot of guys will remove the can all together if they can and "Accidently" drop it on the sidewalk from the bucket so they cant be re used. I just cut the leads and throw the cans away.
