We didn't do any routine maintenance with sticks/gloves at night..............occasionally, when a car/truck hit and broke a pole we transferred the primary Hot, using gloves.........sometimes the secondary also..all depended on the situation.......

I bleve the norm here is to do what is necessary to restore power in an emergency situation . I kaint think of any scenerios other than scheduled outages where anyone would be workin hot primary in the dark just to perform maintenance.

We are the same normal hot work is done during the day, but during an emergency or the odd O.T. job (that might require some hot work) that has to be done at night

Only time I can remember working at night other than storm trouble is a few times on a conversion to accomodate some large businesses while they were closed or either real slow. Other than that i can't think of anything spent a lot of long nights in Savannah working it hot on trouble though

Same here...........

Entergy /Arkansas has a night crew in Little rock, but mostly for trouble and when they're not working trouble, they work street lights and used to do a little Bomb squad (capacitor) work........

On SoCal Edison we worked pretty consistant night outages for damn near a year. Changing out 3 potbanks. Usually schedule 2 a night, or 1 bank and start your normal pole change out when you were done was a nice money gig. But we always had light plants wasn't any different than working during the day, minus not having to deal with any of the bosses, which as always is a great thing.

Awesome! What better time to work on capacitors than at night to maximise the intense nature of a cap failure. :D

been a while fella's but I figure I'll chime in...

Worked plenty of hot stuff at night in my time....

there was a time years ago when I was road whorin... that I worked for a year or so cuttin and moving a bunch of 69..115... 138 and such at subs that fed out to mini's and rec's over to new backbones to underslungs with sf6 breakers so that they could do away with "highside" fuse set ups... had to stick all of it... with maybe the occasional wavetrap wandin and handin the airgap...

most it it was done after the sun had set usually had powerplant lightplants or what ever you call them...

trickiest one I ever was a part of was doing one duke power I think it was... 230 bundle... we built a gaurd structure in 2 days and had the wire pulled over on the third... did our preplan stick and bucket testing on thursday then cut every thing over hot that night...

trying to put a pocketbook grip on with a 15 foot stick is a muthafuka in broad day light try it at night with a dumbassed inspector shinein the gd spot light in your face instead of your work...

as far as 'bustion work goes?

emergency work or scheduled outages... thats it... never did normal glove or stick work after dark...

for what it's worth...
